Education and Outreach:
The CHJV has provided several workshops on the management of natural communities important to the conservation of Central Hardwoods Bird Conservation Region birds. Restoration and proper management of these habitat communities (open woodlands, savannas, and barrens) are critical to maintaining many declining bird species. Targeted at land managers, these educational events provide up to date information on the complexities of managing these unique habitats, and encourages managers and administrators to promote management of natural communities beneficial to priority birds. It also encourages land managers to take a more holistic approach to landscape management and work cooperatively with other agencies toward common habitat goals. Since 2011, the workshops have attracted over 290 attendees, representing over 15 resource agencies and organizations. Additional workshops will be offered to provide information on restoring and maintaining Shortleaf Pine communities.
